Tournaments

Tournaments let your players earn points on casino games or sports bets and climb a live leaderboard. Prize pools are platform-funded on Plus, Pro and Ultra.

A Tournament is a competitive event where your players earn points by playing casino games or placing sports bets, then compete against each other on a live leaderboard for prizes. Both casino (slot-based) and sports (prediction and betting) tournaments are supported. The platform runs the event for you, automatically, from the moment it starts to the moment prizes land.

How does a casino tournament work?

A player opts in to the Tournament, plays their usual games or places their usual bets, and accumulates points from that activity. When the Tournament ends, prizes are distributed automatically to the top finishers.

Point mechanics are configurable for your casino. Points can accumulate faster with higher stakes, on specific games, or above a minimum odds threshold. Those are examples rather than a fixed list.

What does the player see while a tournament is running?

A live leaderboard, showing their rank at any moment. The player gets instant feedback when they move up the rankings.

The leaderboard is embedded natively inside the game and betting interfaces. The player checks their rank without leaving the session. The tournament screen also shows recommended games, which guides discovery.

Why do tournaments matter to you as an Owner?

A live leaderboard gives the player a concrete reason to keep playing and to come back the next day: a rank they can climb. Tournaments increase session length and return visits.

A Tournament is one of the engagement tools available to you. You can see the wider set on the engagement tools page.

How does Lumio run tournaments for you?

Lumio hands you ready promotion options. The tournament format, the scoring structure, the duration, the prize structure and the eligible products come already worked out for your casino, so you are choosing between real options rather than starting from a blank screen.

Two examples of what an option can look like: a short high-frequency tournament to stimulate weekend activity, or a longer multi-day event anchoring a weekly retention cycle. You pick the one you want. There is more about working with Lumio on the Lumio page.

What do Plus, Pro and Ultra include?

Every tier funds the prize pool from the platform, not from your budget. What changes between tiers is the size of the monthly pool and which reward types are in play.

TierMonthly prize poolWhat the tier unlocks
Plus$10,000 cashCash tournaments, platform-funded
Pro$10,000 cash, 50,000 free spins, 1,000 free betsMultiple reward types in competition
Ultra$25,000 cash, 150,000 free spins, 3,000 free betsHeadline-scale monthly events, still platform-funded

Plus unlocks cash tournaments, platform-funded. Pro unlocks multiple reward types in competition (cash, free spins, free bets), broadening which players have something worth competing for. Ultra unlocks headline-scale monthly events, still platform-funded. What each tier costs is on the pricing page.

Scaling the prize pool to the tier rather than one fixed number for everyone lines up with how regulators think about reward design, the UK Gambling Commission frames the principle as keeping the benefit on offer proportionate to the level of a customer's play.

Can a tournament run alongside your other engagement tools?

Yes. A Tournament can run with a Challenge layered on top of it to compound engagement. It can also run at the same time as other engagement features, such as a Happy Hour window or the Loyalty system. Those are examples, not a complete list.

What is a tournament not?

A Tournament is a ranked competition. Players compete against each other on a live leaderboard, and prizes are distributed to the top finishers when the event ends.

A Tournament is not a personal mission with an individual goal (see Challenge). The two are different instruments, and a Tournament can run with a Challenge layered on top of it.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do players have to sign up for a tournament?

The player opts in to the Tournament, then plays their usual games or places their usual bets. Points accumulate from that activity. A live leaderboard shows their rank at any moment, and they get instant feedback when they move up the rankings. The tournament screen also shows recommended games, which guides discovery.

Who pays for the tournament prize pool?

The platform funds the prize pool, not your budget. Plus carries a monthly $10,000 cash pool. Pro expands that to $10,000 cash plus 50,000 free spins plus 1,000 free bets. Ultra expands it to $25,000 cash plus 150,000 free spins plus 3,000 free bets. The pool stays platform-funded at every tier.

Can I run a tournament on sports betting, not just slots?

Yes. Both casino (slot-based) and sports (prediction and betting) tournaments are supported. In a sports tournament, players earn points from the bets they place, and point mechanics can be set so points accumulate faster above a minimum odds threshold. The leaderboard is embedded in the betting interface the same way it sits inside the game screens, so players follow their rank without leaving the session.

What is the difference between a tournament and a challenge?

A Tournament is a ranked competition. Players compete against each other for a place on a live leaderboard, and the top finishers take the prizes. A Tournament is not a personal mission with an individual goal (see Challenge). They are two different instruments, and a Tournament can run with a Challenge layered on top of it.

How do I decide what kind of tournament to run?

Lumio does that work for you. It presents ready promotion options with the tournament format, scoring structure, duration, prize structure and eligible products already worked out for your casino, so you choose between real options instead of starting from a blank screen.
